This interactive project blurs the line between physical and digital by simulating paper cranes landing on the participant’s head and shoulders in real time.

The delicacy of the interaction—emphasized by the requirement that the user stand extremely still in order to see anything at all—recalls the frustration and satisfaction of real-world bird watching, while making the actions of the user an intrinsic part of the project. Sudden motions cause the birds to fly away, and continuous sudden motion increases their state of agitation, culminating in the explosion of the occasional crane into shards of paper.
